Ambitious Law and Business student specialising in commercial law, contracts, and the future of work. Analytical, persistent, and equipped to thrive in legal and corporate settings.
My name is Aria Buscke, and I am currently studying Law and Business at Griffith University. I plan to graduate in 2030. My long-term goal is to open my own law practice. I am motivated to become a lawyer because I wish to utilise the law to promote fairness, to protect individual rights, and to create a significant positive difference in people's lives.
Additionally, my motivations for pursuing this particular pathway can be attributed to the combination of requiring resilience along with a strong focus on detail and ethics, as demonstrated through my completion of my Diploma of Business. The Diploma of Business shows that I am committed to understanding the business environment, and it has provided me with a solid foundation in professionalism and accountability.
Additionally, my part-time employment experiences include barista positions. In these roles, I have had exposure to fast-paced and high-pressure work environments. As such, I have developed very strong communication abilities, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm while under pressure. These are three abilities that will be invaluable during the practice of law and in court rooms.
Going forward, I intend to apply my work ethic, resilience, and sense of accountability to successfully establish myself as a member of a high-performing legal and corporate organisation.
When presented with multiple tasks under time-sensitive conditions, I deliver high-quality results. This is due to my ability to remain collected, composed, and focused on what is necessary to accomplish.
As part of many of my part-time jobs, the work environment could shift rapidly from slow-moving to chaotic in a very brief period. Therefore, I need to be able to adjust quickly and accordingly.
I continually focus on all tasks assigned to me throughout my studies and coursework. The reason for doing so is that everything I do is ultimately leading toward achieving one ultimate goal: becoming a lawyer. I know this is true since I consistently select study courses and experiences that lead me closer toward that goal.
Before acting or responding appropriately to a given situation, I assess the emotional state of the individual(s) involved by examining their tone, expressions, and body language. I am aware of this based upon my experience with providing customer service in customer-facing roles as well as team-based roles where reading people accurately and remaining level-headed are crucial components.
When dealing with stressful or complicated situations, I provide stability and dependability. Based upon past experiences, I am frequently entrusted with responsibilities that require concentration and follow-up without direct oversight.
While learning about coffee preparation and how to showcase coffee products utilising espresso equipment during my barista training were important skills that I acquired, I also obtained practical experience in customer service, managing the cash register, and maintaining quality control standards for cleanliness and sanitation. These experiences allowed me to learn how to be productive, organised, and communicative. As such they assisted me in developing an awareness of how to function as part of a collaborative group environment to handle workload demands and produce effective customer relationships.
I took this opportunity to gain experience working with children of varying ages. My responsibilities were providing safe, structured and caring environments for the children. This involved ensuring their physical and emotional well-being during each day while being mindful of their routines; always supervising them; assisting in meal preparation; supporting them through to bedtime; and communicating clearly and effectively with parents about their child's needs and behaviour. Working as a caregiver enabled me to develop my sense of responsibility, self-awareness and ability to remain patient in a position where I was trusted by families to care for their most precious assets.
Currently focusing on the units of Foundations of Law, Contracts and The Future of Work, helping me build a strong understanding of core legal principles, contractual frameworks, and how emerging trends are shaping modern workplaces.
Provided me with a strong foundation in core business concepts such as communication, teamwork, and organisational skills, which are all directly relevant to my current university studies in law and business.
Completed secondary education in Brisbane, possessing various academic and sporting achievements along the way, for example netball premierships and gold academic merits. I graduated with a high ATAR, which allowed me many options for university pathways.
The artefact featured here is evidence of my barista training which was undertaken via nationally recognised VET qualifications in espresso preparation and food safety. Throughout this process I developed the capacity to prepare coffee products efficiently, uphold standards related to hygiene, and conduct myself professionally and with care while working in a fast-paced service-oriented setting. While this qualification appears straightforward on the surface, it illustrates my capacity to meet expectations reliably within an occupation that places emphasis on precision, aesthetics, and professionalism.
I chose this artefact because it illustrates transferrable skills that are applicable directly to my future career in law and business. Working as a barista requires attention to detail, flexibility, excellent interpersonal communication capabilities, and the ability to remain calm while under pressure. This qualification emphasised the significance of adherence to regulations, workplace standards, and creating a consistent professional image throughout all interactions. These are skills that I will continue to rely upon within legal and corporate organisations where clear communication is fundamental.
I began working on my Diploma of Business so that I would have an initial step into entering college after finishing secondary school. This proved helpful; it established a comprehensive understanding of the principles of business (organisational skills, teamwork, communication), which I presently employ as part of my Law & Business degree studies. The Diploma of Business additionally assisted me in establishing greater confidence in academic writing, time management, and analytical evaluation, all of which aided in making the transition from secondary education to tertiary education smoother.
By completing my Diploma of Business prior to finishing secondary school demonstrates that I am resourceful, responsible, and dedicated to meeting my educational goals, all characteristics that are beneficial in both academic and vocational settings. Generally speaking, completing my Diploma early on allows me to enter the workforce with an additional layer of expertise compared to others seeking similar opportunities in either business or legislative areas.
